I am finally back in the field, in Malomo, the trading center that our
bus will soon be commuting to again. My supervisors (who supervise
the enumerators) and I will soon be moving to a house to save costs on
accommodation. It will hopefully also feel more like home although
rooms are super tiny. but as long as we have electricity to be able to
do work, everything else is just luxury ;)
we are now busy preparing the next phase = identifying more
households, preparing for the enumerator-training and the
baseline/follow up survey to be conducted right afterward. after 10-14
days of baseline survey our bus will start running again for at least
1,5 months, maybe longer, depending on the state of the roads during
rainy season, which will start in late November. During the time the
bus is running we will be conducting activity surveys, i.e.
interviewing each household bi-weekly. after x-mas we are expecting to
do the follow-up survey for another 2-3 weeks.
that's the plan, but as usual things never quite work out as they
should and we are already pushing back the training which was
scheduled to start today. our questionnaires are just not ready yet...
I am excited to move to our house soon, the food you can get in a
"restaurant" is super monotonous - zeema (maizepaste), a few greens
and a tiny bit of meat (usually goat). I miss cooking too! of course i
brought my little espresso machina and i hope to be making coffee in
the mornings soon. Also I am hoping to be able to plant something in
our little garden. Not that I am gifted if it comes to plants but I
hope to get a little bit of support...
The people are extremely friendly and are excited we are coming back
to interview them. Of course they are also awaiting the soap they get
as a compensation for their time every time they are being
interviewed.
